Reasons to be Thankful

Thanksgiving is always a good time for reflection; taking a moment to remind yourself of all your accomplishments, goals that have been reached, projects that have been completed, new customers that have been secured. The year is nearly over and while we’re not in any position to slow down with a supply chain crisis and a massive reconciliation budget under consideration by Congress, I still believe it’s an important exercise to set time aside for gratitude.

For me, professionally, I’m thankful for hard-working staff that keep the issues of our membership at the forefront of their workday. I’m thankful for a united membership that can lean on each other in times of need and work towards navigating issues together instead of climbing over one another to get to the front of the line. And lastly, I’m grateful that we’ve had a chance to proudly represent NACD members and Affiliates alike on Capitol Hill to the degree that we’ve been able to this year.

The NACD community has accomplished a lot in the past year, and while we know we can’t alleviate every pain point that our members have, we can look back on the past year with a sense of pride that we have implemented every effort possible to make moving chemical products through the supply chain a conceivable task.

A few of these efforts include: tracking the shipping crisis over the past year and ensuring that we are conveying the impact this crisis is having on NACD members; conducting our first-ever virtual fly-in event, Congress Connect, to stay connected with legislators on a personal level while we were still managing the COVID-19 pandemic, and heading back to in-person events to reunite with our colleagues in the industry.

This year marked NACD’s 50th Anniversary and the 30th Anniversary of NACD Responsible Distribution®. We celebrated decades of serving the chemical distribution industry by ringing the New York Stock Exchange Closing Bell and we’re also honored by Congress with a resolution recognizing all we’ve done to advance safety and stewardship in the industry.

While it wasn’t the year we expected, it was one of our most productive and successful ones yet — and a shining example of what we can do as an association and an industry. NACD has always been a place where members can turn for help, and we’re continuously honored to have your trust on issues most critical to the success of your business. Thank you for celebrating the past year with us; if the past is an indicator of the future, then NACD’s future looks very bright.
