2009 Washington Fly-In a Success

The 2009 NACD Washington Fly-In took place on April 29-30. During this event, 50 NACD member company participants visited Senators, Representatives, and congressional staff members in 150 Congressional offices, representing 33 states. In the meetings, NACD members urged Congress to oppose legislation that would make premature changes to the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS), to oppose the so-called Employee Free Choice Act, to support legislation to increase competition in the rail industry, and to be cautious in considering legislation to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act.

Other highlights of the Fly-In included:

• A presentation by former member of the House of Representatives and current American Chemistry Council President Cal Dooley,
• A presentation on the CFATS regulations by Director of the Department of Homeland Security Infrastructure Security Compliance Division Sue Armstrong, and
• A meeting with key staff members of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

Thanks to everyone who made the trip to Washington to participate. Thanks, also, to those of you who could not be in Washington, but sent letters to your Senators and Representatives to help NACD make a bigger impact on Capitol Hill that week.
